DIY: IKEA DUKTIG KITCHEN HACK

DIY: IKEA DUKTIG KITCHEN HACK

Ikea hacks have to be my all time favorite projects. You can be so creative with their simple designs and the possibilities are endless.

Which brings me to this current project. I’ve been looking for a small kitchen for my kids playroom for a while and either the size or colors just didn’t work.

Thankfully I found the perfect sized kitchen at a really good price! - IKEA DUKTIG KITCHEN

Although this kitchen is extremely cute as is, I really wanted to personalize it to the style of their playroom.

I started by removing and sorting all the pieces out of the box.

Remove all grey (plastic and metal) pieces from the box.

I gave all accessories 3 coats of spray paint and 2 coats of clear top coat.

Painting

There is a mixture of white and raw wood pieces in the box, but because I was painting it all white I only removed and worked on the raw pieces.

I used Behr paint in Ultra White. One thing you will notice in the assembled photos is I omitted painting the inside of the cupboards. If I did this again I would paint all sides of the wood.

I did leave the counter top in the raw wood to mimic a butcher block. I did think about staining this wood but left it alone in the end to keep the whole look light and airy.

I also wanted to add 3 faux stove knobs and used black drawer knobs found on amazon. Just predrill 3 inches apart and add knobs.

It’s also a great idea to add a coat hook to the side of the kitchen for aprons or shopping bags.

Backsplash

I used 3 pieces of cardboard found in the box to create the base of the backsplash. Taping all 3 together was the perfect size to cover the opening.

I purchased the white subway tile stickers from amazon and followed the instructions on layering and cutting to finish the look

Heavy duty duct tape was perfect to adhere it to the back of the kitchen!

And VOILA, A personalized kitchen for your kiddos!

Now all you have to do is pretend to eat the delicious meals they whip up!
